这个独立结构是代词加上了比较分句吗

完整句子：Through hard practice，Lucy，herself not much more than a beginner，made rapid progress in speaking German.

我的疑问就是，herself not much more than a beginner，是个独立结构吗，因为在看反身代词的相关知识，看到反身代词作主语时和后面的构成独立结构。什么不定代词+不定式，ing分词我能理解（）。可是more than...可以做独立结构吗？想做一个了解。

独立主格结构中如果看不见非谓语，往往可以添加一个being，参考曹老师的讲解:

herself not much more than a beginner≈herself being not much more than a beginner，蕴含的意思是She herself was not much more than a beginner. ≈ She herself was a beginner.

这里把(not much) more than当作短语理解更简便。
