老师，请看以下摘抄了《哈利波特》电影的一句话：

He doesn't understand what it is like, lying there day after day, watching people press their ugly faces in on you.

他根本不理解你的感受，整天躺在那儿，面对凑过来看你的那些丑八怪。

老师，对于这句话，我有两个问题：

1. 这里的现在分词 lying 和 watching 在句中作什么成份？

2. 句尾的 in on 两个介词并在一起是什么意思？

1. 用《剑桥英语语法》的术语，可以理解为“补充语”（complement),用于补充说明和解释what it is like.

2. in on 相当于toward,这里指观赏动物的人把脸贴在玻璃上的样子，in 表示向下，向里，on 表示接触。当你把脸用点力贴在玻璃上时就是这样的。所以我理解这里的in 是副词，on 是介词。

1. it是形式主语，真正的主语是动名词短语lying there day after day ... 在这个短语中，主干是lying（动名词），而watching是现在分词，做lying的伴随状语。类比：He lay on the grass, watching the stars.

2. press .. in on ...，把in和on拆开来分析。press their ugly faces in，正如好题老师所说，in是副词，向里，靠近。如果要表明向谁靠近，用介宾短语on you，on有朝着的意思。
