句子2:I will forever cherish the time when I won the prize in the National Math Competition.

这两个句子应该都是修饰先行词time的定语从句，且关系词均在从句中充当时间状语。那么，何时可以用that作为关系副词来引导定语从句修饰time，何时不能？除了常见的It is the first time that…这种句型外还有其他用法么？并且用that来修饰的时候一般that可以省略。那么在什么时候一定不能用that作关系副词且这个关系副词是一定不能省略的？

通常在time后的when和that是可以替换的，较为正式文体用when.一般也都可以省略。即使你提到的It is the first time 结构也是可以接when或省略的，只不过是通常都用that或省略罢了。请看出自国外英文书刊的例句：

1. This is the first time when there would be a pandemic of which we had advance warning.

2.This is the first time when claims purchasers have access to this information,

3. It probably is the first time when a government attempted to perform to help in this kind of work.

4. I remember the time when I stood on a stool while my sister and I played with his hair.

5. I also clearly remember the time that I won over one thousand dollars from a scratch-ticket lottery.

6.And next time when the vortex comes to suck you up, you'll maybe make a different choice.
