动词 question 可以用作不及物动词吗

2015 年湖北的高才英语试卷的短文写作题目如下：

Questioning is a bridge to learning. When you begin to doubt something and search for an answer, you will learn.

我不明白为什么这里的 question 用作不及物动词，但词典上是没有这种用法的。

1 question可以有不及物用法。例如：《韦氏词典》

question：

intransitive verb

: to ask questions : INQUIRE

2 questioning 本身可以是抽象名词。例如《韦氏高阶》

questioning: the activity or process of asking questions
