1. face 表示“遇到；面临；面对；应付；正视；不企图逃避”等意义，侧重主语行为的主观性和意愿性。如：

▲此题只能选 A。此处的 faced with so much trouble 表原因（即用作原因状语），即原句相当于：
Because we were faced with so much trouble, we failed to complete the task on time. 由于我们面对如此多的困难，所以我们没能及时完成任务。
注意 be face with 是英语中的常用搭配，意思是“面对”。又如：
He is faced with a difficult choice. 他面临困难的抉择。
They are all faced with the same problem. 他们都面临同样的问题。
The country is now faced with the prospect of war. 这个国家目前正面临战争。
