     The date of the event is May 22.这里的 is 是系动词。（《朗文高级英语应试词典》认为“表示某人或某物与主语相同”的be动词是连系动词。这里的The date of the event 和 May 22相同）

因为：

be 动词就是系动词的一种，而is只不过是 be 的变化形式而已；

所有的系动词都是不及物动词。

所以：

is 既是系动词，也是不及物动词。
