as...as结构后面的介词可否省略

C. as early as D. while

这个题目答案选C，是否省略了介词 in？第二个as 是连词，常省略动词部分我知道，但是介词不应该省略吧?

as early as (in) his childhood.有没有介词都对，用介词似乎更正式。
