在表示继续时 continue (on)/ go on /carry on 有什么区别?

如: The rain went on continued for three days.

The trial continues on Monday.

请问以上例句,为什么前者用continue 而后者需要加上on? 这样的句子可以用go on , carry on代换吗?

The rain went on (=continued) for three days.

The trial continues on Monday.

The trial goes on on Monday. （？）语言崇尚动听和美观，两个 on 在一起，不好。

carry on 另有它意，不作比较。

The rain went on continued for three days. （错误）应该改为：

The rain continued for three days. 如：

The rain continued for most of the day. 雨几乎下了一天。（摘自《牛津英语用法指南》第2版英汉双解版p.1379）

The trial continues on Monday. ( 不是 continues on 搭配使用，而是 on Monday 搭配使用。另外，这里的 trial 应为 rain )
