你理解错误。这是Hardly...when...引导的时间状语从句，刚一...就...大约等于as soon as引导的从句。主句要用过去完成时，从句用一般过去时，主句的动作刚一发生，从句的动作就紧接着发生了。我刚一进房间，电话铃就响了。

fly 后面为什么要加with
with as much agility为介词短语作fly的方式状语。as修饰much，much修饰名词。with as much agility = as agilely，都是方式状语。

插入语非限定动词使用问题
这些插入语的例子基本都是固定的说法，不能随意改动的。你照着模仿使用即可，无需作区别。例如，To tell the truth，你不能改为Tell the truth 或 Telling the truth。Believe it or not，你也不能改为不定式或现在分词。不要作无谓的分析。
