police与the police用法的区别(有无定冠词)
表示“警察”时，有时用 police，有时用 the police，两者有什么区别吗？
The police put a barrier across the road. 警察设了路障。
The police made three arrests yesterday. 警察昨天执行了3项逮捕行动。
Police immediately sealed off the streets. 警察立即封锁了街道。
Police blocked off the street after the explosion. 在发生爆炸之后，警方用路障封锁了那条路。

police 用作集合名词表示“警察部门”“警察机关”“警方”时，原来是要用定冠词。但在现代英语中，用不用定冠词都可以。比如下面两句均摘自柯林斯词典的 police 词条：
The police are also looking for a second car. 警方也在寻找另一辆车。
Police say they have arrested twenty people following the disturbances. 警方说骚乱发生后他们已逮捕了20人。
再如：
The police have every good reason to believe that he is guilty. 警方完全有理由认定他有罪。（剑桥词典）

police 表示个体意义的“警察”（指具体的人），但是表示复数含义，作主语时谓语用复数；它可以与基数词（但是 one 除外）或不定数词（few, many, several 等）连用，不能与不定冠词连用。如果表示一个警察，可以用 police officer / a policeman / a policewoman 。表示“警方”、“警察部门”、“警察机构”的意思时，通常用 the police，但是在现代英语中，也可以只用 police 表示。
police是集合名词，指“警方；警察部门”时，常作the police。如：
Quick! Call the police!
Did you report the robbery to the police?
当police指“警察”时，其前常无定冠词。如：
Several police were injured during the rioting.
Armed police stormed the building.
