With the wheat harvest in full swing, China had gathered 53.8 percent of its crop as of Wednesday, reaping about 10.93 million hectares of farmland, official data released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs showed.

According to the ministry, wheat harvests in Sichuan and Hubei provinces are almost done, while in Anhui province about 90 percent have been completed and in Henan province 80 percent have been finished. In Shandong and Shaanxi provinces, harvests are nearing their peak.

Taking up about a quarter of the country's total annual grain output, the harvest is hugely significant in achieving the annual grain production target. Traditionally, the summer harvest spans the period from late May to mid-June.

为什么用过去完成时？没看出是过去的过去，难道as of Wednesday中的Wednesday是上周三，而不是本周三（说话这周，写稿这周）？

1. 写文字的时候Wednesday 已经过去了，所以是过去，假设文章是周四写的，那么周三就是本周的，但仍然是过去。此句中as of 指到周三为止。as of 如果和将来时连用，表示从某某时间开始。

2. 有些词，如hope, think等，常和过去完成时连用，这里涉及惯用法，表示事情的发生有事与愿违的含义。用一般过去式的意思和过去完成时有差别，如果你说I didn't think of that. 意思是当时你根本就没这么想。如果用现在完成时，（口语中有人这样用），但有你至今可能还没认识到这个问题的可能性。
