为什么下面这句话中so much that引导结果状语从句时，前面还可以加逗号？

The study hypothesized that this early label marks all those who bear the same name similarly, so much that other people can match the name to the face based on expectation of how someone with a certain name is likely to look.

但是去掉逗号后又感觉不通顺，因为不知道副词much 在这里是修饰哪个动词的？

另外，怎么理解这句话末尾的 to look？look 表示“看起来”的意思时不是一般仅适用于 look like、look as if/though 这样的用法中吗？
类似的用法还有这句话：That means common ideas of how a person with a certain name would look were correct.

1. 你的句子so much 后漏了一个so, 应该是so much so (that)，请再查一下原文。that可以省略，so一般不省略。so much so (that)前一般用逗号表示停顿，也有时用破折号。这里一个习语。请看the free dictionary 的释义和例句：
