在此论坛里看过相关的问题,都说see/watch sb do sth是强调“看某人做某事”的完整过程,是看到了动作结束的。而see/watch sb doing sth是强调“观看某人正在做某事”
现发现一些中学的习题以及真题中有一类这种题,就是前面加了个often,好像就必须使用often see/watch sb do sth,并且给出的解释是“不带to的不定式强调动作的经常性"。并且有一道兰州中考真题: Every morning, Tim often sees some groups of middle-aged women___in the square.
A. dance B. to dance C. dances D. danced
答案是A. 虽然此选项中没有dancing,但我觉得dance太过牵强。不可能说Tom每天早上看完一群女人跳舞的全过程吧?还是说因为有个often就必须用dance?
另外,我看见很多权威字典的例句是有often see sb doing sth的例句的,但是在中学的习题和真题里,只要有often的都用了do sth。
often修饰的是谓语动词see,而see的宾补用不带to的不定式还是现在分词,取决于经常看到的是完整的动作还是动作的片段,即often并不能影响宾补的选择。中学的这类试题是对感官动词后的宾补形式的曲解,是欠妥的。COCA语料库搜索often see/saw him, 得到的例句足以证明这一点。例如:
We more often see him handing out grace to the people he hangs out with.
They often see him explaining, defending or retracting something he said.
During Tolkien's 34-year stretch as a professor at Oxford University, students could often see him heading into St. Aloysius Church for mass;
They never talked to me, but I often saw them talking to other patrons.
...and neighbors often saw them playing outside, ...
Simone often saw them driving past in Warren's old truck, ...
