3 时间段状语用in还是for引导

这是2020版高中英语北师大版必修第三册第7单元(p15)的句子。

请问这里为什么用in引导时间段状语，不是应该用for来引出时间段状语吗？

提问之前要思考！谓语动词为walked out onto the stage 著名作曲家走到舞台上，这个动作能持续12年吗？12年是时间状语吗？in 12 years是修饰the first time的，意为12年中的第一次。
