live什么时候后面加in什么时候不加

我在网上搜了，他们的解释完全相同，但是我看不大懂，希望老师能给我讲详细点。

作 place 的后置定语时，to live 后面可以加in，也可以不加。I want to some paper to write on中的write on和live in用法相似，都是“动词不定式+介词”作后置定语，但是write 后面的on 不能省略。

以... place to live.为例，规范的应该有“in”，只是越来越多的人不加“in”，这样也就被普遍接受了。其他的该加on等介词的句子，没有“不加”这种情况。
