He saw himself, perhaps, as inviting his students to start an exciting voyage into an unknown world invisible to the eye.

这句话中的as是什么意思呢?可以去掉吗?

see A as B 是see的用法之一,把A视为B,认为A 是B 。as B合起来为介词短语作see的宾补。see在此不是感官动词,而是认知动词。 as B 中的as通常认为是介词,B 可以是名词、形容词、动名词、过去分词。B 为形容词或过去分词时,被认为是省略了动名词being。 你这个句子中的as不可省略,句子意思为:或许,他认为自己是在鼓励学生们开始。。。

而 see sb doing sth结构中, see 是感官动词,看见某人在做某事。doing必须是动态动词表示事件意义,这个事件的发生是肉眼可见的。
