关于other和another用法的疑问
新概念英语第二册第5课
Mr.James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst. Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury, but Mr. Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just bought twelve pigeons. Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury. The bird covered the distance in three minutes. Up to now, Mr.Scott has sent a great many requests for spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other. In this way, he has begun his own private 'telephone' service.
我们知道：another 两个以上中的另一个；the other 总共两个中的另一个。
Q1:第一个 another 的意思是 Mr.James Scott 买之前有两个以上汽车修理厂，还是买之后有两个以上汽车修理厂？
Q2:既然 Mr.James Scott 有两个以上的汽车修理厂但为什么后面是 from one garage to the other.为何用the other 而用不another呢？

这里的another表示不定数目的“又一个；再一个；另一个”，相当于a second。
Would you like another orange? 你还想要个橘子吗？
She's going to have another baby. 她又快有孩子了.
▲费致德《现代英语惯用法词典》有如下说明：
【注意】不定数目中的另一个说another；两件东西中的另一个说the other。
三个人、物说one, another (or a second), the third (or the other)。
四个人、物说one, another, a third, the fourth (or the other).余类推。
▲如果不是列举具体的三个、四个、或五个，而是列举任意的不定数目，情况则不同。2008年版外研社《英汉多功能词典》指出：
“在任意列举单数名词时，接连使用one, another, another等，最后如果还剩一个用the other，还剩多个用the others”。

another 仅表示同一类型的“又一；再一”
不代表 已经有了两个以上吧。（个人观点）
