Reader's Digest 上看到一句话： He would be grown and out of the army before he could go back to school and on to college......
根据牛津词典，grown 作为形容词只用于名词前作定语, 如grown man, 因此这里的grown 应该是及物动词grow的过去分词/被动语态。
grow 作为及物动词只有3个义项：
1）使生长：如grow rice
2) 使留长：如grow a beard
3) 扩大增加： 如grow business
请问此处的he would be grown 是什么意思呢？
根据上下文，似乎是长大的意思，可是那是个不及物动词。难道原文有误？

He would be grown and out of the army before he could go back to school and on to college.
是系表结构，gorwn 为形容词作表语，等于形容词 grown up。这里指自身长大成人，逻辑上不存在被动语态。又如：
Our children are grown up and have children of their own.
我们的子女都已长大成人，有了自己的孩子。
