分不清是一般现在时还是一般过去时

造了个句子：Put the books where they are.

老师说不行，应该是：Put the books where they were.

我觉得用一般现在时也说得过去。请老师们指点！

你的老师说得对！误句的错误不在语法，而在意思：

误：Put the books where they are.

正：Put the books where they were.

此处的where从句应该用一般过去时，意思是“请把书放回到它们原来的地方”（即你是从哪里拿的就放回到哪里去）；若where从句用一般现在时，则意思就是“请把书放在它们现在的地方”——意思有点怪！既然是现在的地方，就不需要放了！

比较下面的句子（用一般现在时）：

Leave the books where they are. 让那些书仍放在它们现在的地方。（即不要动它们）
