最近看剧的时候看到了两个petty的例句。

1 A：I do not wish for those people to use my silver.

   B：Are you really that petty？(petty 狭隘的，小心眼的，小气的)

   A：I am discerning. There is a difference.

2  C：You don't seem to me to be a person governed by petty rules. (petty 琐碎的，次要的，微不足道的，不重要的)

    D：But I must live in the same world as everyone else.

为了辨识这两种场合的用法，我想问一下这两种意思的来源或者说演变。
