关于skip doing与skip to do

在一本书上看到 skip doing 的用法：

Don’t skip reading the instructions before you start. 开始前别跳过阅读说明。

我突然就想：这里用 doing 是因为 skip 后面只能接动名词吗？能不能接不定式？我查了手头的一些语法书，没有书提到 skip 后面接动词只能用动名词。求教各位专家老师！

查了一下，好像确实是接动名词（没有查到用不定式的例子）。比如有一年的高考题就用的是 skip doing：

The implication of these results is that to gain the greatest health benefits from exercise, it may be wise to skip eating first. (2020江苏卷)

这些研究结果表明，若想从运动中收获最大的健康益处，运动前最好先不吃东西。
