Born the 16th child to poor parents in Paris in either 1783 or 1784, a young Carême was suddenly abandoned at the height of the French Revolution.

我理解born常用于被动语态，前半句就是过去分词引导的一个分句，实际意义是a young Carême was born to poor parents（出生在贫穷家庭）。后面为什么可以跟词组the 16th child呢？这个词组做什么成分？双宾语还是名词词组做状语？谢谢！

这种用法相当于born (as) the 16th child to... as 可以省略。我觉得可以有两种解释：

1. 看作主语a young Careme 的补足语。

2. 看作是状语，表示身份。
