定冠词问题(新三，第5课)

The editor at once sent the journal a fax instructing him to find out the exact number of steps and the height of the wall.

the exact number of steps 中 steps 前面为什么不加个定冠词 the 呢？相应的后句的 wall 就加了the？

如果steps加the 就成了台阶本身有编号了，具体几号的意思。这里指数量，所以不用冠词。我不知你能否体会出我说的这个差别，如果体会不出来，就说明你没有这个语感，积累不足造成的。

高度是特指这面墙的高度，所以要用the.
