1)当我们表达：下午晚些时候，究竟是late in the afternoon 还是 later in the afternoon ？
2)Don't worry, the sun will come out later in the day. 还是the sun will come out late in the day.

1）late in the afternoon 和 later in the afternoon，两个说法都有，要看上下文。later in the afternoon 往往和前面的提到的事情相比，晚一些。有时还有后来在下午的意思，因此不一定是下午晚些时候。你要表达的意思，用late in the afternoon 比较好些。
2） 用later in the day. 后一个late in the day 常表示太晚的意思，有贬义。
