第二个that前but可以省略吗

2 第二个that前but可以省略吗

She didn’t tell them that she was afraid she might die, that she worried nobody would hug her or give her a proper goodbye. 我觉得是not that...but that...结构，但第二个that前为什么省略but呢？还是我的理解有误？

这不是 not that...but that...结构，本句 not 是否定 tell，而不是 that 从句，而且第二个 that 前原本就没有、而且也不需要 but。
其实，这是 that 的一个特殊用法，第二个 that 作为从属连词，表示 “原因”。黑体部分其实是原因状语从句，其主句是 she was afraid she might die。
