我开始是按照动名词考虑的。但是虽然词典释义是按照imagine释义,但毕竟see其实还是用心目中的“眼睛”看,所以其用法与感官意义的see的用法是类似的,即后接复合宾语。在同一个释义之下,有这个例句:Can you really see yourself any happier than you are now? 这个句子中yourself 为宾语,any happier为宾补。说明这种用法是后接复合宾语结构的。而且词典的英英释义to imagine (someone) as being or doing something specified 也提示doing是宾补,而不是动名词复合结构作宾语。在COCA搜索 I can't see his,没有后接doing的例句。只有 I can't see him doing的例句。说明该结构是复合宾语,现在分词作宾补,而不是动名词复合结构作宾语。
理论是这样,但用起来有时就当感官用。
