问题 go on doing sth中的doing是宾语还是状语

在谈到go on的用法时，大都会分析它后面接to do sth与接doing sth的区别，我没弄明白的是，这个go on 后面的to do sth和doing sth是宾语还是状语？换句话说，这个go on是及物的还是不及物的？
