个人认为 the ability to English的表达不妥，应在 English 前加上合适的动词，如 study, use, write 等。当然也很愿意听听其他老师的分析。

关于 ability 后面所接介词主要有以下情况：

My ability in English is about average. 我的英语水平属于中等。

group of pupils with similar ability in a particular subject 在某学科上能力相当的一批学生

Sarah has demonstrated considerable ability in both maths and chemistry. 莎拉在数学和化学方面都表现出相当的能力。

▲ability at

The boy shows remarkable ability at mathematics. 这男孩显示出非凡的数学才能。

The young man shows remarkable ability at music. 这位年轻人显示出非凡的音乐才能。

▲ability of

I have confidence in the ability of the players. 我对于球员们的能力充满信心。

We’ll be testing the mathematical ability of every child. 我们将测试每个孩子的数学能力。
