unread 是形容词。the unread 指“未读的文字/文稿/信息”等。这个 the 必须有。the + adj. 表示“未读的一类东西”。后面可以看作省略了名词，也可以看作不省略，均可。属于这类表达：

the next unread：下一个未读的材料
