than necessary和than is necessary的理解

先看两个句子：

I don’t want to spend any more money than necessary.

I think it’s bigger than is necessary.

我的疑问：

1. 第一句用 than necessary, 第二句用 than is necessary, 两者有何区别？

2. 这是省略吗？是省略了什么成分？

二者在口语及书面语中应该都常见。than necessary 与 if necessary 似乎不同，后者等于 if it is necessary，而前者稍有不同。

第一句等于：I don’t want to spend any more money than it is necessary for me to spend.

第二句等于：I think it’s bigger than it is necessary for the thing to be.

书面语言还是尽量要求规范。省略的情况多出现于口语，这样表达比较准确。
