(could mean "stop restraining her" or "give her permission to go").
"Let go of her" = stop physically restraining her.

You can both let your dog go and let go of the dog. Which one you do depends on the context.
You can't let go anger, but you can let go of anger.
You can't let go the leash of the dog but you can let go of the leash.
Note that these last two examples are not the same construct as the anger or the original post.
